What kind of information is available in the Fbisd Skyward School Web Portal?

Schools and districts subscribe to Microsoft’s hosted version of Office 365 (O365), also known simply as Skyward.  Skyward includes email, calendar, contact manager, and web-based document creation and collaboration platform (Office Online). On June 1st, 2014, in response to community requests for greater access and transparency, FBISD transitioned all 2200 teachers and staff from individual logins to single sign-on with Facebook accounts. The result provides users with one username/password for ObieOne (email), the District website, Google Apps for Education (Gmail, Calendar, Drive & Docs), PowerSchool (grades 7-12 only), Infinite Campus (grades K-6 only), and Skyward.

FBISD first piloted the implementation of O365 to the staff at its newly opened Creekside High School in January 2014, followed by a phased rollout to all eligible users beginning in February through April 1st.    FBISD’s 1:1 student initiative began with 900 Chromebooks at two high schools in 2012, expanding to 2200 devices across all 9 campuses this school year. Currently, 1:1 students are using G Suite for Education for email/calendar, Google Drive & Docs for file sharing and collaboration, and Dropbox for storing files not managed within Drive.

Users were given the option of linking their existing email accounts to O365 or creating a new account with an assigned username and domain @fbisd.net.  Staff members were granted access to full cloud storage space, rather than just using one’s “My Drive” storage allowance.  FBISD’s IT department is in the process of evaluating how best to provide staff with appropriate levels of security for SharePoint and OneDrive for Business within Office 365 Education.

Q: Can I substitute for another teacher?

A: FBISD does not allow teachers to be substituted, but you can submit an online note to the teacher. Please do not send money or gifts (and please tell other parents/teachers not to send these items as well).

Q: Can I give grades or feedback?

A: Yes! You can see your child’s grades and feedback by clicking “Class Schedule” on the left menu followed by clicking on your student’s name. Once there, checkmarks will appear next to each class that has already had its grade submitted. If it is blue for a particular class that means you have yet to enter that grade.
