Michaels Employee Schedule
Below is a full list of job titles, which are followed by their descriptions and the number of hours per week worked. The first shift starts at 8 am and ends at 5 pm. Employees who work on that shift work 7 days out of the week, with each day being 4 hours long (for example, Monday maybe 8 am-12 pm). Then there’s another shift called ‘second shift’ which starts at 1 pm until 9 pm. That second shift also works 7 days a week but only for 6 hours instead of 4. Finally, the last shift is the ‘third shift’, starting from 10 pm to 6 am seven days a week.
What the schedule is like?
The schedule for this store is all over the place. The first shift works 4 hours per day, Monday through Saturday, and the second shift will work 6 hours a day on a rotating basis between Mondays and Thursdays. The third shift rotates every three weeks between various days of the week.
Staff members must be able to work at least two of these schedules:
- First Shift (7 am-5 pm)
- Second Shift (1 pm-9 pm) Monday-Thursday
- Second Shift (11 am – 7 pm) Friday only
- Third Shift (10 pm – 6 am ) rotating days.
How it’s different from other schedules
This is a very busy Michaels and employees are expected to rotate between the three shifts.
The second shift on Monday through Thursday is when there is the most traffic. You can expect to be working with anywhere from five to six other coworkers in this shift. Activities in this shift vary and can include: slotting (putting away new product), cleaning, cash wrap, lots of customer contact, and stock work. Friday is usually less busy than Monday through Thursday because parents take their kids out for half-day school programs on Fridays so come prepared for a slower pace of work.
The pros and cons of this schedule:
This schedule runs from 7 PM to closing. The pay is more than the first shift and it has a later start time, however, you must stay until all of your work is finished.
This shift usually runs on a 12-hour clock format. The day starts at 11 AM and ends at 11 PM with five-hour breaks from 7 PM to closing which is 9 PM.
- There are more coworkers in this shift so you have a lot of help if needed while working towards the completion of tasks. There is also less pressure so employees who have been working for long periods of time or recently started can get caught up without worrying about being “behind”.
- The pay for this shift does not go up however you can make OT if you can stay overtime. This means that if you do not complete all work by your shift’s end time at 9 PM then the next person is unable to complete their tasks and this leads to more pressure on those who come in after them.
